What Should You Book First for Disney World?
Book Disney World in dependency order: dates, lodging, and tickets first; park days next; dining at 60 days; then Lightning Lane at 7 or 3 days.
01 · Dependency ladder
Book the trip in an order that keeps choices useful
A restaurant reservation is less useful when it lands in the wrong park, and Lightning Lane passes require valid admission. The safest order therefore protects the foundation before adding scarce or paid extras.
- Choose dates and lodging. The hotel can affect transportation, the dining window, and Lightning Lane eligibility.
- Buy and link theme park admission in My Disney Experience for every traveler.
- Assign a primary park to each date. You do not need an hour-by-hour itinerary yet.
- At 60 days, book only the dining and extras that genuinely matter, then add flexible meals.
- Buy Lightning Lane passes when the correct window opens, after verifying the linked party and admission.
A separately ticketed event that is nonnegotiable can move earlier because those events have their own release dates and availability.

03 · Exceptions
Keep the windows from becoming false guarantees
A dining reservation does not include park admission or guarantee entry. Every guest ages 3 and older needs valid admission for in-park dining, and some admission types may also require a park reservation.
The 7-day Lightning Lane benefit includes the select non-Disney hotels named above. For date-based ticket holders outside those hotels, the 3-day window can cover the valid days on the ticket when it opens. Annual Passholders and guests with other non-date-based admission generally plan within the 3-day visit window.
- The length-of-stay dining benefit is capped at a 10-night stay.
- Lightning Lane availability, attractions, and prices vary by date.
- Lightning Lane purchases are limited and generally nonrefundable and nontransferable.
- Park reservation requirements depend on admission type; date-based tickets currently do not require them.
- Operating hours and inventory can change after the first booking day.
04 · Checklist
Prepare the decisions before the booking morning
- Confirm the full party, travel dates, and the budget ceiling.
- Book lodging and admission, then link every traveler in My Disney Experience.
- Check whether anyone’s admission type requires a park reservation.
- Choose one primary park per date and rank the dining or extras that matter most.
- Set reminders in Eastern Time for the correct dining and Lightning Lane dates.
- Recheck confirmations, park hours, cancellation terms, and payment details afterward.
Secure dependencies first, scarce experiences second, and paid line access only after the park plan is coherent.
